Greetings to you all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
Luke 12:19-20 says, “And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then who”
Well, I’m 84 years old so that means that I am now living “overtime.” Most people, according to the Bible, live to be 70 and sometimes 80. So, I’m now in “overtime.’ Well, when God is ready for me, I will go. It is interesting to note that world deaths are above 35 million right now and that every second almost two people die somewhere in the world. It is also interesting to note t hat the leading cause of death, according to one source, is cardiovascular disease. It accounts for about then million of those deaths and cancer is about 5.5 million. Covid, at this source, is about 6.5 million for the whole world. World population is around 7.7 billion people. The birth rate is exceeding the death rate at the present time and has been that way for years.
Well, God is still in control of each and every life on the planet. Many people have the attitude that is expressed in the above passage of Scripture, of rate, drink and be merry. We find this especially true in the “retirement” side of life where you work until you reach a certain predetermined age and then get to relax on the beach somewhere with a cool drink in one hand and a big piece of chicken in the other, just watching the ocean, the birds and the sound of the surf, or you may have a vision of retiring in the mountains in a log cabin, a fireplace, an iRish Setter, a book and a cup of hot chocolate. Whatever your view of retirement might be, you need to really look at it from God’s point of view with is the final part of today’s passage. It starts out with the words, “Thou Fool.” That sets the mood for this discussion with God as He has determined that your view of retirement is wrong and that His is right. Of course, it is not retirement, it is eternal life somewhere. You do have the choice to determine where you will go when you pass from this life but the choice needs to be made on this side of death and not on the other. Your destination will have already been determined before the time they place you in the casket or pour your ashes into an urn. God mentions also that this is going to happen righ t when you don’t expect it in the lease. The above passage says, “This night….” Right when you think you are about to get the best retirement ever with your 409K plan, God steps in and says, “Come on.” Boom! A heart attack hits and you are on your way to your eternal destination as one of the 35 million souls that are going out into eternity So, here I sit in overtime. What am I going to do. I don’t mince words anymore, I ask people straight out. If you were to die right now, where would you go and why. I tell them the st ory of the Gospel message of Christ, of His death, burial and RESURRECTION! Praise God today
