Greetings to you all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
First Corinthians 15:53-54 says, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”
I was coming out of the shower recently, getting dressed and going over to my power chair when I noticed a pain developing in the lower part of my neck and radiating upward, slowly. I took a nitroglycerin tablet and sat in the chair for a moment and the pain went away. I reported it to my home health nurse the next day as an, “Oh, by the way”comment. She immediately began calling the VA and leaving messages with my primary care provider and my cardiologist. She said, “Just doing my job.” The next day, I got a call from my cardiologist who knew what the problem was, as I have an artery blocked in my heart, but I had refused trying a stent or another heart surgery. Again, the option was put before me as if I wanted it, I could have it done. With the condition of my heart and my age and probably some other factors, I decided to stay on the course that I chose a year ago. If God wants me to come home, He will do it when He is good and ready anyway, so I will just continue preaching and witnessing whenever I can until that time.
The above passage is near the end of one of the most exciting chapters in the New Testament. The whole chapter speaks about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and the empty tomb and what it means to us as believers in Him. Our bodies are corrupt and someday we will put on incorruption. It won’t wear out and it will be perfect in every way. I really can’t imagine my body being incorrupt. I have cuts, bruises , swelling, leaking, runny nose and eyes, coughing, sputtering, falling hair, too much ear wax, cracked nails, aches and pains from arthritis, bloated stomach, and the list can go on and on naming every bodily function and condition of this worn out, corrupt body. Well, there will be that day when it will be incorrupt and all of the above problems will be erased and replaced by perfect skin, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, lungs, heart, feet, legs, hips, spines, skull etc. The next phrase says it will be immortal. Who doesn’t dream of being immortal? Mortality will put on immortality. Indeed, death will be swallowed up in victory. Ir is beyond comprehension what our existence will be like with an immortal body, a celestial body in heaven with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. No more need for the sun or the moon as Jesus Himself will be all the light that is needed. In conclusion, my recourse in my little life is to let God have His way and the sooner I have immortality with Him, the better. In the meantime, however, I will continue to serve Him. Praise God for His ultimate plan for eternity.
