Names

Greetings to you all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Revelation 2:17 says, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”

It  seems that everything has a name.  There is nothing around you that does not have a name.  Even “nothing” has a name, the air around you that does not contains something, can be called “space.”  In the dictionary, they are all called “nouns.”  What  I am getting at is the fact  that we, as part of God’s creation, while we are grouped together as human beings, or souls, we have individual names.  My full name is Daniel Charles Freeland.  Folks hee a the assisted living are bent on calling me “Mr. Freeland” which is way to formal for me.  Some Call me Daniel and some who are close to me finally call me “Dan.”    None, however, have called me by my “family” name which is Danny.  When I travel to Indiana after crossing the Ohio and Indiana state line, I am known by all Hoosiers as simply ”Danny.”   My most recent job resulted in my label as “pastor dan.”  One lady, always in a hurry, would simply say, “Hi P. D.”  as she whizzed by.

The above verse speaks about  the receiving of a white stone with a “new” name written on it and only the recipient of that stone will know the name and of course God Himself.  There is a song that has a line in it which says, “I have a new name written down in glory….and its mine, oh yes it’s mine.”  When you read t he Scriptures, you can easily become excited over the final chapter, or the conclusion to the whole matter.  With God, the conclusion is  just the beginning of a never ending story.  It’s eternal.  The closer I get to the end of the road, I wonder more and more about people who are so wrapped up over the things of this seventy to eighty year s of life on earth.  It is a mere drop in the bucket so to speak when compared to an eternal, or everlasting presence with God.  Earthly pleasures sure don’t amount to much.  Gold, silver, gems, some accumulated wealth, Old buttons, antiques, just  seem to fade away to nothing.  People may think I am crazy for believing in the words of the Bible, but they have a 100 percent track record while the prophets of men don’t even come close.  If I prophesy that the next car t hat  comes by will be red, I have a good chance of being right.  So, I will place all of my eggs in t his one basket called the Word of God.  He never misses.  Praise God today for His promises and call me “Danny” before I get my new name.
