Flying

          Do you like to fly? I some times have dream of flying where I run and then jump a little bit and then more and more until I am above the tree tops. Quite a dream. My Father would often make things after sitting around a bit and thinking about them.  He didn't have any blueprints or basic plans.  It all seemed to be in his head.  One day, he told me that we were going to make a kite.  I was familiar with basic kites, but this one was different.  We had some simple sticks and some newspaper.  From that, he made a "box" kite.  It was rectangular in shape and stood about four feet tall.  He made it out of strips of wood and newspaper. After he got it adjusted with a tail, we launched it off of the front porch of our home in rural Indiana.  The kite went up and up and up and was barely visible. It was higher than any kit I had ever had.   I was standing on the front porch looking up at it and could feel the strong tugs as the wind was catching it more and more.  Then, the wind hit hard and I thought I was going to leave the steps of the front porch.  So, I let go and the kite took off.  We later found it about a mile away where it had come down in a field.  Now, as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I look forward to being taken away as Paul said in the following verses.l  First Thessalonians 4:15-17 says, "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."   

         These verses describe a time when we will defy gravity, i.e., we will be taken up into the clouds should we be around when Jesus comes again.  We will be flying but it will be so fast, we won't even have time to think about it. The word for "caught up" is where we get the term "rapture."  Prophetically, it is seems to be extremely close at hand.  I often think that each new day is one day closer to this future event. We don't know exactly when it will be but since every promise has been fulfilled just the way it was supposed to be, we can rest in the hope that this one will be also. This will be greater than the box kite.  It will take us all the way to heaven.  So, while some people may be preparing to meet the undertaker, the believer needs to be preparing to meet the Uppertaker.  Praise God today for His plans for the future.
