Everyone
seems to be wearing T-shirts with some message or another. I saw
where I could purchase a gross looking T-shirt online that bore the
name of my home town. It would be neat but the shirt costs almost
$40.00 and looked like it was from a motorcycle gang. It wasn't my
style. You can get almost anything written on a T-shirt these days.
You can proclaim your message to the world without having to say
anything. Our Grandson was over to the house the other day and had
on a T-shirt from Camp Bethel which had a verse of Scripture on it.
The verse was Philippians 2:16 says, “Holding
forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that
I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”
The
verse brought back memories from 60 years ago and my involvement with
the Navigators, a Christian organization that began serving the
military and later spread out to include campuses across the nation
and later the general public. The connection is remote, but the
founder of the Navigators was at Schroon Lake, New York, the home of
“Word of Life” who had the above verse as their motto. Every
believer should be holding forth the “Word of Life.” This refers
to God's Word, the Bible. We always have opportunities to speak
about the Lord. One of the things that I learned from the Navigators
was that every conversation can be turned towards God. Every
experience that you have can be used to teach some lesson from the
Word of God. That has been the format of these devotions for the
past 20 years. Every experience, every job, every conversation, and
every lesson learned
can and should be used to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ. Your walk
in the woods, your plowing of a field, your meeting
of a friend, can all be used to “hold forth the Word of Life.”
Just think of what has happened in your life during the past day and
see how you could use it to speak about the Word of Life, the Bible
itself. You should be able to see many examples where you could have
said something about God and His Word during those times. Take for
example, the Trinity. It is called “Trinity” because it is the
name that denotes the persons of the Godhead, the Father, The Son and
The Holy Ghost. Keeping that in the back of your mind, just think of
how God has used that in His testimony towards us. How many “3's”
are there such as animal, vegetable, mineral, or red, blue, yellow
(primary colors) solids, gases, liquids) and the list goes on and on.
God has given all of us perfect opportunities to speak about Him yet
we often let them pass by and fail to mention it to the person to
which we are speaking at the time. Are you holding forth the Word of
Life today and in the opportunities that God has given to you.
Praise God today for His great witness to each of us.
