Help

Greetings to  you all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Acts 16:9 says, “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.”

I spent yesterday in a manual wheelchair at the Veterans hospital.  I went in for an oxygen assessment and to have lunch with a friend, a fellow veteran.  We spent the day together and I waited for him to finish his appointments.  We were to meet in the cafeteria which is a long way.  I was going at a snail’s pace when two young ladies offered to help me.  I was there quickly and appreciated their help.  Some time later, I was heading for the restroom and was having a hard time getting both in and out of the main door as their was a metal strip on the floor that was hanging up the wheelchair.  Again, a lady came to my rescue and opened the door for me and gave me a push over the strip.  I also found that once a veteran found out when I was in the service, they said, “Welcome home.”  They are saying that to all vets who were in during the Vietnam war as American didn’t welcome them back to the states when they arrived.  Many are silent and still carry the memory of that return, so now, the people say, “Welcome home.”  Oh by the way, I was in a school command so never left the states  but that didn’t make any difference to the other vets, they still said, “Welcome home.”  It was a good day.

Help, as those who helped me so often on my visit to the hospital, is important in our day and age.  There are so many people who need help and it is all kinds of help.  Some of it, like pushing a wheelchair over a metal striip, is easy to do.  Who;e om the cafeteria. Severa; [;ep[;e. Strangers offered to help me.  I often marvel at the above verse when Paul got the Macedonian vision and it said to come over and help us.  He was obedient and went to Macedonia only to end up in the jail after a couple of weeks.  I would be wondering if I had gotten the right message.  The churches started small but grew and the gospel went to Europe and I am glad it did.  The message was going out to my ancestors.  It  is important for us to be obedient to the helping of others even those who are strangers to us.  If you see a need, try to fulfill it.  My father never passed by a stranded motorist.  We would stop and try to assist in any way that we could.  He was driving to work one morning in the winter in Indiana and helped car after car that had been stranded in the snow.    They often slipped him some money for helping to get out of a snow drift and he ended up making more money that day than if he had gone to work.  He never asked for it.  One day a man had been bitten by a p poisonous snake, and dad was just coming from a dentist where all of h is teeth and been removed.  He stooped, cut an X over the bite and sucked the poison out of the man’s leg.  He didn’t even think about it.  He just helped.  Praise God today for His help to us each and every day.
