God Knows it All

Greetings to you all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Psalm 139:1-4 says, “ O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.   Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.  Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.  For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.”

My wife and I have been married for 62 years and have known each other for over 63 years.  We have come to the point that we almost know what each other is thinking.  Some things we don’t have to say, they just take place.  I know that she is going to straighten my suspenders every time I get dressed/  I know when she comes back from the dining room that there will be something wrapped in napkins in her walker which she expects me to eat even though I have already said, “don’t bring me anything.”  She does it anyway and then she will reply, “imagine that.”  We are, however, not omniscient in our thoughts about each other.

I marvel at the above passage from the Psalms.  I perhaps can think about God know ing my thoughts or the thoughts of my wife but it is hard for me to fathom that God knows t he thoughts and words of every person, past present and future.  At this time in history, the earth is populated with over seven billion people and still, God knows the thoughts and words of each and every one of them.  God knew everything about me in my pas and knew that when I tried out for the band in boot camp that my life would be forever changed and my orders would be changed from Normon, Oklahoma to Washington, D.C.  God knew everything about my life from the time a stabbed my toe with a pitchfork to the time I would get married.  God knew when each child was conceived and everything about them and the grandchildren that would follow.  He also knows everything about everyone and there are no secrets that are kept from God.  Therefore, we can rest and be content in whatever situation we may find ourselves today.  We may be facing a hard day or an easy day.  It may be a day like no other or it may be an average day with no surprises.  We might be exalted and we might be humbled.  We might be sad or we might be happy but in all of it, God is there and has His arms around us.  What else do I need in such a time as this.  Praise God today that He is present, that He knows everything about us and that we are safe in His arms.
