Ancestry

        People in these days must really be interested in the family tree. There are several groups on the internet that strive to help you find out where are your “roots.” Many people hope to find out that they are the descendant of some royalty or some famous person in the history of our country or even in the world. We had a man in our family that had gone to a lot of time and energy to reproduce the family tree of the “Vermilyer” family. It was placed on a long window shade and unrolled at every family reunion and space was even allotted for those family members who were supposedly going to have children in future years. My name was there and my wife's name was added and then four slots were given to us but we only filled two of them. After filling up a small bottle with spit, it was sent off to a company who later supplied us with our ancestry. We did find an unknown cousin and that is quite another story but there were no princes or high ranking royalty in our family. Spiritually speaking we do have some interesting relatives. Ephesians 2:1-2 says, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:” 

           Everyone was related to this “prince” but no one really wants to claim any connection to this one. You see, the Prince of the Power of the air is Satan. It used to be that no one would want to be connected to him. In our society today, however, there are those who enjoy such a connection but it will be short lived so to speak as they will soon leave this world and find themselves in eternity and suffering because of misguided allegiance. It is easy to follow after this prince. All you have to do is “nothing.” Because of the sin issue, the sinner will not allowed to be in heaven. God however, made sure that a way was and is possible through the suffering of His Son on the cross for our sins. The price was paid in full and all we have to do is to believe in Him. Satan's window shade is full of names and every person who has not confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord will find their names in the “books” of the works of the lost. In believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, your name is placed in the “Lamb's Book of Life.” The space is there for you and for me. You can't change from where you came but you can change where you are headed. Oh, and you do have some royalty after all. You, who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, are now a child of the KING. What could possible be greater than that. Praise God that provided a Way of Salvation.
