We
had an interesting sermon on Sunday from one of the men at the
chapel. The man has is a mathematician and teaches at a local
college. He made a statement about logic and how sometimes we come
to what might seem to be a logical conclusion but we may be wrong
because we are missing a vital piece of information. He stated that
this might seem to be an unusual statement coming from a
mathematician. John 14:6 says, “Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me.”
When we look at John 14:1-6, we
some pretty amazing things. We learn about the present ministry of
the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven, that He is making a dwelling place
for us, that He is coming again and that He is the Only way to
heaven. It seems obvious that many people in the world today have
ignored these statements as we have so many different beliefs in the
world in regard to eternal life and how to get there. The people of
the world have come to their own logical conclusion but they are
lacking a very vital piece of information. They don't know Who God
is and what He can do. They don't know what He did in referring to
the creation and how long it took Him to do it. If you leave out
this information in the equation, then your logical response is going
to wrong. If you doubt that God created the universe and everything
in it then you are going to come up with an illogical conclusion. If
we doubt the truth of the Bible then we are going to have illogical
conclusions because of the lack of all of the information. What does
all of this have to do with us? When I believe what the Bible says
and about who God is, then I can have confidence in the affairs of
today. John 14:6 makes a very bold statement. It declares that
there is only one way to God the Father and that is through the Son.
We have all heard so many say before that we all will end up in
heaven and that Christianity is only one of many ways to get there.
That is the opposite of what John 14:6 say. He declared that there
is only ONE way and not many. As we read the Bible, we get more and
more information about God and how He is working in the world today.
I know we won't know it all, but the more we get, the more we will be
able to come to a “logical” conclusion about the affairs of life.
When the Philippian jailer saw the power of God he asked one
question, “What must I do to be saved?” The Apostle Paul answered him,
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy
house.” Look at the character of God and behold His glory. He is
the One that has said that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Praise God today for His working in our lives and especially for the
gift of salvation. “For by grace are ye saved through faith and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God not of works, lest any
man should boast.” Eph. 2:8-9
