Almost
everyone has something in their
life that they really like to do or to eat or to have above everything
else. It is like chocolate. I was at one of our church gatherings
where we had a lot of food and there must have been five or more types
of macaroni and cheese. I couldn't believe my eyes. When a person who
likes chocolate finds
themselves in the midst of all kinds of chocolate, they might say,
"Pinch
me. I think I've died and gone to heaven." We find that
when we get into a situation where our favorite thing exists that we
associate
it with being in heaven. But, is heaven going to be a paradise of
chocolate for the chocolate lover? Is heaven going to be a place of
perfect waves for the surf board enthusiast? Obviously, the answer to
that
question is, No. The Scriptures give us a glimpse of heaven and it is
far more glorious than chocolate, waves or anything else that we might
imagine..
Revelation 21:1-4 says, "And I saw a new
heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed
away; and there was no more sea. And I
John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And
I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God
is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from
their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed
away."
The Book of Revelation goes on to say a lot more about
heaven. We can get a pretty good glimpse of what heaven is like and what
we are going to be doing once we get there. We won't be doing earthly
things such as eating chocolate or playing shuffleboard while in
heaven. We will be offering praise to God that will surmount
anything and everything that we have ever done before. The sights and
sounds will also be far greater than anything that has ever been upon the
earth. So, if you or someone near you says, "I think I've died and gone to
heaven", just remember they don't know the half of
it. Praise God for His plans for eternity.
